The whole world recognizes this identity of ours. It's unique in so many ways.
If defending a race, don't we see the news all over the world and see the damage it got them?
Talk about race, we offend too many. Do we realize that many in our country are raised in a family of all races? Indeed they have to make a choice of registering their one race when filling up forms etc. Taking sides creates major conflicts within these families and within those individuals themselves.
It's no secret to what conflicts bring.
So please people, start feeling and being Malaysians. Live as Malaysians, move as Malaysians, dance as Malaysians, wink as Malaysians, fly a kiss as Malaysians, reason as Malaysians, wave as Malaysians, love as Malaysians, be angry as Malaysians, be stunning as Malaysians, be gentle as Malaysians.
The point is, we can accomplish more as Malaysians. And why not?

For most Malaysians they only know and care about one now - makan as Malaysians. And this leads to sakit as malaysians - darah tinggi, kencing manis etc etc ...

i would love to do all that
but right now and for many many years i have no love for my country
perhaps my feelings will change over the next few months
and i'm looking forward to it
cheers,
will
I'd be the first to 'sokong' you if I could. Problem is the government keeps reminding us that we are Malaysian second, after whatever race that we come from, by insisting that we declare ourselves in whatever government documents/forms that we have been made to fill! With such constant reminders what are we to do?
Sorry to have to tell you, but for the moment you want to experience it, i.e., to feel Malaysian, migrate!! Yes only when you have made that darned move to a country far away, you start feeling Malaysian. You make sure the community you have moved into recognises you as being Malayisan. Not Chinese, with the appended negative/positive assumptions. Not Indian or Fijian with their appended negative/positive assumptions and not Indonesian with their appended negative/positive assumptions. In all of them there usually is more negative than positive. But as Malaysian somehow there is more positive than negative. Except of course how stupid our politicians can be. And of course you make sure none of that stupidity rubs on by you by claiming that your migration was because you want to get away from all this stupidity.
Just like OF said, I only felt as a Malaysian when I'm overseas. When I came back, the sentiment begins...
I tried to teach my kids the look beyond the color but then again, they teach it differently in school...
The comments here exactly show what kind of pathetic mentality exists..
Hell with yourself, if you dont feel anything about malaysian..
Don't create trouble!!!
cos it will only follow you soon.
We are often Malaysians only during the festivities.
This is the time when we are bombarded with advertisements of how Malaysian we were, are and could be.
After that, back to status quo.

1. How do you "wave as a Malaysian"? I know they have the Mexican Wave... :)
2. Anyway, not being a non-Malay it is difficult for me to comprehend how insulting it is if I had to fill in a form where I had to say I was Indian or Cina. I note that from some comments here, the people feel very insulted and offended.
3. Excuse my stupidity, but it is only in Malaysia that we have three very distinct racial types, the Malay, Indian and Chinese.
4. I don't think anywhere else in the world is it so that such distinct racial types are allowed almost complete freedom to express and practice their respective racial customs and beliefs and the other races look on with tolerance and acceptance.
5. These rights are enshrined in our Constitution.
6. And we have to be glad at least for that, or that our predecessors did not think much of it that they were Malay, Chinese or Indian, but that they lived together in harmony in this great land.
7. Maybe that's what it means to be Malaysian? To recognize, accept, tolerate, be friends with each other, irrespective if we're Malay, Indian or Chinese, and if one of us does wrong, correct him or her, and we move on.
8. To a peaceful harmonious and strong Malaysia!
Hi Sexy:)
If one disagree does that mean we are less Malaysian.... i guess all any of us want is to be treat as HUMAN, thats not too much to ask for, is it now.
Truth of the matter is only a few who are fanning "fire" and all that has been happening in the last few months was due to some who cant accept certain realities la.
Cest la Vie, you'll find them in every corner, so why even bother bout these ppl.....
imagine that this land is not call malaysia but cinasia, and u the malay r the squatters............
Yes, Malaysia IS A Boleh....Opp Malaysia ISA Boleh....sigh....

no need to imagine...just look at our neighbour down south...already treated as one...or maybe if this country was cinasia..we're communist country already..so why bother...
agree. lets be one. malaysians.
I'd really like to believe that the Benetton-esque campaign of "Satu Bangsa" is true. But apparently the SQUATTER cocktail of ethicities making me who I am... only makes me feel like I have nothing to give to a country that only accepts you if you accept that you'll always be second class. And all racist remarks on the non-majority are fine. (how sad that we're probably the only country that has affirmative action for the majority/supreme/bully ethnic group.
Suddenly moving abroad sounds better At least you don't feel like your citizenship is something you need to kiss their godlike toes for.Even if our grandfathers built this country with the supreme race. Oh let's just ditch this ship and watch it sink. Because yesterday my hopes of unity have gone to hell.
THey can start with removing those damn boxes in all the forms we fill (lest a SQUATTER gets some government aid meant for, say, a MALAYsian with a pathetic 2.5 CGPA)
Read the news recently of a so call "Malaysian Indian" taken to immigration as she was suspected as Sri Lankan, the funny thing is she cant speak National Language, at 22 year old! What is that? Don't talk about Malaysia Malaysian when some people dying to protect vernacular school or when 22 year old cant speak National Language. Hmm... maybe you mean Malaysia Malaysian is just abolishing NEP and other Malay right, I guess so.
My ancestors had Indian, English and Chinese blood, my children are married to a Malay, another to an Indian and another to a Sarawakian. What kind of family does that make us?? MALAYSIANS!!! We don't know how to feel any other way. Our people and race are so intwine that it's impossible and stupid to separate.
